Can warranties be transferred?

The answer depends on the type of warranty and the manufacturer. Many premium coating and PPF warranties can be transferred to a new owner — but this typically requires the installer to register the change of ownership in the system, and the warranty conditions to be updated with the new owner's information.

If the warranty is issued on the car (rather than on a specific person), the transfer is usually straightforward.

What value does it add when selling?

An active, documented warranty on coating, PPF or anti-rust can increase the car's sale value. The buyer knows the car is protected, what it is protected with, and when the next service is due. This removes uncertainty and gives the buyer a tangible benefit.

Research from the UK market shows that cars sold with documented PPF and coating warranties achieve on average 3–8% higher sale prices than comparable cars without.

What do you need as a seller?

  • A valid certificate specifying the product, installer and installation date
  • Documentation that the service intervals have been observed
  • The ability to transfer the registration to the new owner (either via the installer or directly in the customer portal)

A digital certificate makes it easy

With a digital certificate via a platform like Sevv, the transfer can be done in a few clicks. The installer updates the ownership, and the new owner receives access to their portal with the full history and valid warranties. Simple — and professional.
